This seven year old boy with Grade III Microtia and absence of his ear canal (atresia) needed a total construction of the outer and middle ear. After the surgery, he was able to hear for the first time.

This seven year old boy was born with the absence of his outer ear (auricle), ear canal, ear drum, and ear bones. Restoration of his hearing has begun after construction of his outer ear. Surgical construction of the outer ear must be done before any restoration of hearing is possible. Notice he is wearing a hearing aid in the second photo. This hearing aid allows him to hear prior to his middle ear being constructed. It also trains him to recognize sounds in preparation for the surgery on his middle ear. |
